When i joined ‘Tekriti‘, i was not sure if it’s the right place to work with, it was referred by a friend. Although at that time, i wasn’t sure of being with startup neither was sure to go for some big company but one thing i was sure of, since when i was studding Linux at CDAC , that i wanted to dig it as far as i could, wanted to explore more ’bout it and wanted my knowledge to be grown out of box. I was never been more passionate ’bout anything else, but ‘how’ was the question. I wanted to gamble some high stakes and that could only be possible by spotting no-limit tables.
Spotting the no-limit table was the most important part for me, then to concentrate on with whom i would be working and how i can gain most out of it. I joined Tekriti and kept my eyes open, soon enough i knew i’ve hit it they wanted to grow out of limit, so i’m.. they were ready to take sharp and high risk and i knew i can get a big slice out of it. They were smart enough to have some high profile clients and they were good at spotting the high stake rolls. Sooner then i’ve expected, i was on the roller coaster ride.
Working with startup is like riding a roller coaster, where every next thing sends a new excitement and a new challenge. Within first few weeks i was asked to handle a real 24×7 server. I knew opportunity was big and has came within no time, i was nervous and excited at the same time, i still remember i called my friend smoke out a few puff before i logged into the server and started my work. That kind of opportunity wouldn’t come that fast for someone starting from a big company, i knew i’ve enough room to think and to grow out big, bigger the risk bigger is the reward.
Second biggest thing i have spotted was the creative work culture and environment, it’s a famous saying, “Success often depends on the ability to think differently”. When you are friendly with the CEO of the company standing right besides you talking ’bout last Indian inning at Iden Garden, you will not hesitate communicating your even not so bright ideas. You will get a sense of pride and motivation will flow all around you. That’s all you need, to think more creative a ‘motivation‘. I liked the idea “growing with the company is lot more easier then growing all alone without letting your self bother ’bout what your campany’s goals really are, alien your goal with your company’s goal.
I strongly believe, the knowledge i gain at the very first level of my carrier will plays a major role. It’s like the hundred meter race where you have to take the lead from the very first step and after that it’s easy to maintain the lead till the end. When each part the work place is transparent enough to know every little piece of information flowing, it will make you feel like you are live part of the system, you will feel like you really are doing something, like if the whole company is driven by your efforts.
I remember once Gaurav said, explaining his presentation given at IIIT and MNR, Allahabad for tekriti’s first Campus recruitment, “working in a big company is like being in jumbo air plane, where all you have to do is to go by the rules and do what you supposed to do wherein working with startup is like being write brothers on your own building every thing from scratch and then ride your new build jumbo jet”, Being deeply into open source technology, it might have caused a deeper effect on me then others. I usually do the same thing building thing from scratch rather following a well written user manual form Microsoft, it gives me a feeling of being write brothers again and again.
In Tekriti, i always have something to contribute into everything going around. I knew every other person by their name, i can easily ask for help and could provide the same if asked for, i could put even not ’so great suggestion’ without being told to mind my own business, all together we always works in a team even if we were working on a different projects. ‘Team-Tekriti’ that’s what i have named it.
I certainly don’t know what are the things i’m missing by not working in a big company but i know what i have gained in such a short time by working with a startup, difference is bigĀ that what i suggest, working in a company and working with a company.
